It Couldn't Just Happen by Lawrence O. Richards

I can’t wait to use It Couldn’t Just Happen to teach my children the truth about creation and evolution. Richards has written a comprehensive text for kids in the 9-13 age range that regards God’s creation and God’s word as the ultimate truth. Questions about dinosaurs, the Big Bang Theory, humans evolving from apes, and any other question your child will ever ask is addressed in Richards’ book.

Richards wrote the book in classic textbook form but left out the boring and blah. This book captures your attention from your first glance at the cover. Pages are not filled with words alone; pictures abound with captions that add intrigue. This book will hold the attention of kids with ease, not to mention the very readable language. Plus the “Just for Fun” section at the end of each chapter supplies additional questions for kids to ponder, research suggestions to further explore the topic and some sort of biblical or God-centered question.

What I particularly enjoyed about It Couldn’t Just Happen was the direct approach to disproving evolution. Richards is quite frank and unapologetic about proving Evolutionists’ theories incorrect without being disrespectful or demeaning. I appreciate his boldness and confidence. It Couldn’t Just Happen makes it very clear that this world and everything in it did not just happen.

I envision this book being a useful resource in several settings including homeschooling, Sunday School and even a study parents do along with their child. Grab a copy and your kids and start learning just how awesome creation is!

I received a complimentary copy of It Couldn't Just Happen from Thomas Nelson Publishers as a participant in their BookSneeze.com book review blogger program.

  1. To be completly honest, all I could think reading this book was that Mr. Richards had no idea what he was actually talking about. I'm a Christian, don't get me wrong, but I'm also a scientist and I know the evidance for Evolution and he doesn't have it right. His refrances were near non-existant on the matter and he truely didn't get the full picture of anything he talked about. All the book was was the typical stuff that most Christians believe with little to no real scientific backing. It's really easy to point out flaws in ideas and theories when all you hear are the names of the theories. Most Christians I've talked to think that the Big Bang was truely a big bang. I hate to say it but that just shows that most people have no idea what the theory actually is since there wasn't a bang and it wasn't very big.

On the Evolution stuff is where I really started to realy noticed that he wasn't looking at all the evidance. Page 99 the under his 'What do Fossils have to..." was where I just couldn't stand it any more. The way he describes Evolution in that secion is horrible. He should have asked a Biologist to define it for him and perhaps he wouldn't have messed it up that badly.

Forgive me if I jump around in his book but my next thing is in the "How Science Works" on page 64. The example test made me laugh and it was good of him to put a bit of humor in the book because if he hadn't then I really wouldn't have gotten as far as I did until doing this. The reason scientists accept Theories to be true for the time being is because all evidance that we have gathered support it. He says that he has evidance to the contrary and I would love to see the scientific report that he has supporting that statement.

I would go on but sadly I just can't bring myself to do so. He tried writing this like a textbook but he seemed to miss something very important when talking about science. He didn't cite nearly anything in this book. There are hundreds of tests and reports that cover the topics he talked about but he didn't cite anything, as far as I could find. One report against 1000 means nothing in the realm of science. All it means is that that one test most likely was acounted for in random chance or there was a gross error on their part. The book was an interesting read if one didn't take it as a serious scientific attempt to disprove many accepted theories we have today. If it was taken seriously then, for a scientist, it is almost laughable at how wrong it is. Mr. Richards was trained in Seminary and Psychology, not Biology or Physics and as such he just can't be taken to seriously in anything he said in this book, I'm sorry to say. I would leave some kind of conact information for anyone who has questions but the internet is at your finger tips, go to google and look up some scientific articles and find the truth for yourself.

    Have a nice day.

    1. Evolution is not a proven theory! Check out Persuaded by the Evidence, by Douglas Sharp, and Dr. Jerry Bergman (2 PhD's, 9 Masters degrees) This guy knows what he is talking about! I can't wait to read this book "It couldn't just happen" to my kids!

  2. Repeated Observations produce Facts.

Theories are used to explain Facts.

Observations that produce Facts that are not explained by a Theory would disprove a theory. The theory of evolution is a method of explaining the observed facts. If you have some relevant observations that cannot be explained with the Theory of Evolution then you have a chance at a Nobel prize for Biology.

Evolution is a working model that explains the observed facts.
